Set up your Cedarras account
Cedarras sits on top of your Kit.com account. Kit keeps your audience and your email. Cedarras holds your courses. Every Cedarras account is connected to one Kit account, so setup starts in Kit.
New to Cedarras? Install from the Kit App Store
- Find Cedarras in Kit's App Store and install it. Kit sends you to a Cedarras page called Connect Kit.com to Cedarras.
- Under I'm new to Cedarras, type an Account name (your business or course brand) and press Create my account.
- Kit asks you to authorize Cedarras. Say yes. If you don't, no account is created.
- Back on Cedarras, confirm the email address for your login. It's filled in from Kit, and you can change it. Press Continue.
- Check your email. Open the link we sent, add your first name (last name is optional), and choose a password of at least 12 characters. The link works once and expires in 7 days.
- You land on the sign-in page. Sign in with your email and new password, and you're in your new account as its admin.
If that email address already has a Cedarras login, we won't send a link. We ask you to log in instead, and the new account is added to your existing login.
One Kit account can only be connected to one Cedarras account. If the Kit account you authorized is already connected, the signup stops and nothing is created.
Already use Cedarras?
On the same Kit App Store install page, choose I already use Cedarras and press Log in. After you log in, you come back to the install page, where you can:
- Create a new Cedarras account for this Kit account, or
- Use an existing account you're an admin of that isn't connected to Kit yet.
Either way, press the button to continue to Kit.com and authorize Cedarras.
Switching accounts and creating another one
You can belong to more than one Cedarras account. The account menu in the top bar shows the account you're working in. Pick another one to switch.
To make a new account, choose New account… in that menu, or go to Settings → Accounts and press Create another account. Give it a name and press Continue to Kit.com. The account is only created once you've connected it to a Kit account.
When you log in, Cedarras opens the first account you joined. To start somewhere else, choose a Default account on Settings → Accounts.
Your account name and slug
Admins can rename the account on Settings → Account Details. Renaming doesn't change the account's slug.
The slug is the short name in your course addresses, like
app.cedarras.com/learn/your-slug/….
It's made from the account name when the account is created. You can
change it in the
Change account slug
box at the bottom of Account Details, but think hard first: every existing
link to your courses stops working, with no forwarding. That includes
links your students bookmarked and links in Kit emails you've already
sent. Links on your own custom domain aren't affected. You type the new
slug twice to confirm.
Your student support email
Also on Account Details, you can add a Student support email. It's optional. When it's set, your course and lesson pages show "Questions about this course?" with the address, so students know how to reach you. Leave it blank to hide it. Cedarras never sends mail from this address; it's only shown as a link.
Admins and editors
Everyone in an account is either an admin or an editor.
Editors build courses. They can edit a course's details and Kit tags, add and change sections and lessons, upload files, and see analytics.
Admins can do all of that, plus:
- Create and delete courses.
- Connect, resync and disconnect Kit.
- Set up course rules and Kit custom fields that send progress to Kit.
- See the Students tab.
- Change slugs.
- Use the account's settings pages: Account Details, Plan & Billing, Kit.com, Custom Domains and Analytics. Editors only see their own personal settings.
Your plan
Every account is on a plan. Some features, and limits like the number of courses or how much you can upload, depend on it. Admins can see the plan, current usage and included features on Settings → Plan & Billing. When something isn't in your plan, Cedarras says so where you'd use it.
