About

Where the mountains meet the ocean

Cedarras is built by Atchison Technology LLC, in Washington State. The name, the mark, and the way the product behaves all come from the same idea.

Where your courses take root.

The Cedarras mark: a cedar standing beside a river

The story in the mark

The branding represents a place: the land where the mountains meet the ocean. Trees there are living assets, to be loved and respected, not just used. A course is the same kind of thing. Something you tend and invest in over time, for an audience you have grown with care.

Rivers are the path from the mountains down to the ocean, the connective thread that carries what the mountains hold out to where it is needed. A river is a path, not a barrier. That is what we want Cedarras to be for Kit: your audience and their progress flow through, instead of being moved by hand.

The logo is a tree standing near a river, with the river opening into the ocean in front of it. The whole landscape in one mark: the tree rooted in place, the river as the path, the ocean as where it all arrives. The mountains and the ocean are both real, and both necessary. It is the whole system working together that matters.

“Cedarras” is a play on “Cedar”, a tree common to the Pacific Northwest, where we live and love. The name carries the tree at its root, the same way the mark puts the tree at the center of the landscape.

Who builds it

Cedarras comes from Lee Atchison, who has spent his career building large systems and writing about them. He is the author of Architecting for Scale and Overcoming IT Complexity, both from O’Reilly, and he builds and sells courses of his own.

Cedarras exists because the course platforms available cost more than they should and do more than most creators need.

Why it runs on Kit

Kit already holds the thing a course platform keeps trying to rebuild. Your audience, who bought what, and the automations that move people from one to the other.

Cedarras uses that instead of copying it. Which makes Kit a real dependency, and worth being plain about. No Kit account, no Cedarras.

Cedarras runs on Kit. Getting started walks you through installing from the Kit App Store, which connects Cedarras to the Kit account you already run.
