Unlock lessons with a Kit tag

A lesson or a whole section can stay locked until a student has a Kit tag you choose. A Kit automation decides when: a weekly email sequence, a purchase, or the student finishing the part before. Unlocking by tag is on the plans that include it; the Plans page shows which.

Lock a lesson or section

On a lesson's editor, find the Unlock by Kit tag group. For a section, open the section's Schedule button on the Content tab; the same group is under the schedule. Choose a tag from your connected Kit account, or create one. Remove lock clears it. A lesson or section has one tag.

A lesson inside a locked section stays locked until its section is unlocked too. If you also set a date, both have to be met: the date has to have passed and the student has to have the tag.

Open the next module when a student finishes one

Add a module completed rule on the course's Rules page that adds a tag, and lock the next module with that same tag. When a student finishes the module, Cedarras adds the tag in Kit and opens the next module for them within moments, without waiting for Kit to report it back. Rules are on the plans that include progress sent to Kit.

What students see

A locked lesson or section shows only "Not available yet" in the contents and on its page: no title, no content, and no mention of a tag. Students can't mark it complete or take its quiz. It disappears from the Next and Previous links until it opens. A lesson you've left hidden stays hidden, whatever its lock.

How Cedarras knows about the tag

Cedarras hears about tags from Kit as they are added and removed, and checks again once a day to catch anything missed. When you lock something, Cedarras checks who already has the tag. When someone becomes a student, Cedarras asks Kit which of your lock tags they already have. Cedarras only keeps this for your students.

If the tag is taken off a student in Kit, the lesson locks again. Anything they finished stays on their record.

Progress

A locked lesson still counts in a student's total, the same as a lesson that hasn't opened yet, so a student can't finish the course early. A student who never gets the tag can't reach 100%.

If the tag is deleted in Kit

The lesson stays locked, and Cedarras shows a warning on its editor and in the contents list. Choose another tag so students can unlock it.

If your plan changes

Locks you already set keep working if your plan drops below the one that includes them, and you can clear them. You can't add new ones. Progress rules pause on that downgrade, so a lock that waits on a rule's tag won't open from that rule until you move back up.

Previewing

Preview as student shows every lesson open. Locked ones carry a badge saying they unlock with a Kit tag.

Using an AI assistant

A connected assistant can set unlock_kit_tag_id (a tag id from list_kit_tags; null clears) on sections and lessons, in add_content and update_content.
